Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using the Swiss Museum iOS application. By downloading, accessing, or using Swiss Museum, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Overview & Service Description

Swiss Museum is an editorial guide and educational mobile application for exploring Swiss art, historical photography, artist archives, and cultural heritage monuments. Features include digital collection browsing, offline favorites, location-assisted nearby discovery, on-device audio narration, trivia, and daily widgets.

2. Intellectual Property & Open Data Licences

Swiss Museum presents authoritative cultural records obtained from official public institutions under open data frameworks:

  • Swiss National Library (Gugelmann & Annemarie Schwarzenbach Collections): Open Government Data (OGD) licensed under public domain or creative commons frameworks as declared by the provider.
  • SIK-ISEA SIKART Export: Artist biography records and lexicon metadata provided by SIK-ISEA under official export permissions.
  • Swisstopo GeoAdmin REST API: Federal Inventory of Heritage Sites of National Importance (ISOS) and Inventory of Cultural Property under Swisstopo open data terms.

Original source rights, institutional credits, and individual copyright terms attached to specific archival works are preserved and displayed within each item’s details panel. All app code, custom editorial layouts, design elements, branding, and app interfaces remain the exclusive property of Swiss Museum.

3. Acceptable Use Policy

By using Swiss Museum, you agree not to:

  • Interfere with, overload, or disrupt upstream open-data API services or network requests.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Swiss Museum mobile application.
  • Use the app or its metadata for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable international copyright laws.

4. Availability & Offline Capabilities

Swiss Museum provides curated offline records to ensure key catalog experiences remain functional without active internet connections. However, high-resolution artwork images, live inventory updates, location resolution, and interactive map layers require an active network connection and are dependent on upstream availability from third-party institution endpoints.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WHILE WE STRIVE TO ENSURE ACCURACY BY RELYING ON AUTHORITATIVE INSTITUTIONAL SOURCES, WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT ARCHIVAL METADATA, MAP MONUMENT COORDINATES, OR OPEN DATA FEEDS ARE FREE FROM ERRORS, INACCURACIES, OR INTERRUPTIONS.

6. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, SWISS MUSEUM AND ITS DEVELOPERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF THE APPLICATION, MAPS, OR ITINERARIES.

7. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Switzerland, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
