Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add the Swiss Museum Daily Masterpiece Widget to my Home Screen?

To add the widget on iOS or iPadOS:

  1. Touch and hold an empty area on your Home Screen until the apps jiggle.
  2. Tap the + button in the top left corner.
  3. Search for Swiss Museum or scroll to locate it.
  4. Select your preferred widget size (Small or Medium) and tap Add Widget.
Does Swiss Museum work offline?

Yes! Swiss Museum includes curated fallback records and stores your saved favorites, notes, and itineraries locally. While audio guides and metadata browsing work offline, viewing new high-resolution images or searching live Swisstopo map layers requires an active network connection.

How can I change the interface language?

Swiss Museum automatically matches your iPhone or iPad system language (English, German, French, or Italian). You can also set a specific language for Swiss Museum by opening your device Settings → Swiss Museum → Preferred Language.

Why does Swiss Museum request Location or Calendar access?

Location Access: Used solely to display your distance to nearby museums and protected townscapes on the map. Coordinates are processed on-device and never saved or transmitted.
Calendar Access: Allows you to save planned day-trips directly into your iOS Calendar. Both permissions are 100% optional.

Where does the cultural heritage data come from?

Every artwork, artist record, and townscape in Swiss Museum originates from authoritative Swiss open data sources: the Swiss National Library (Gugelmann & Schwarzenbach OGD collections), SIK-ISEA SIKART artist index, and Swisstopo GeoAdmin REST API (ISOS & Protection of Cultural Property inventories).
