Own AI is designed as a local-first AI app. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app processes, when information stays on your device, when information may be shared with third parties you choose to use, and how monetization features such as in-app purchases and free-tier limits work.

1. Scope

This policy applies to the Own AI iPhone app, its Apple Watch companion features, and the related legal and support pages linked inside the app.

2. Data the App Processes

• Chat content: Messages and prompts you type or send from the Apple Watch.
• Document content: Text extracted from files you choose to import into a chat.
• Voice data: Speech recognition input, transcribed text, and text-to-speech output required for voice features.
• Conversation history: Saved chats stored locally on your device unless you delete them or enable auto-deletion.
• Model and app settings: Selected model, AI preferences, consent choices, and feature settings.
• Downloaded model files: Model weights, tokenizer files, and related runtime assets you choose to download.
• Purchase and entitlement state: Whether you have access to Own AI Pro and related local entitlement flags.
• Free-tier usage state: Local counters used to enforce daily message limits for non-Pro users.

3. How Data Is Collected

• Directly from you when you type, speak, import documents, select models, or buy / restore a paid plan.
• From Apple system frameworks used for speech recognition, text-to-speech, Apple Intelligence availability, and StoreKit purchases.
• From local storage on your device for chats, settings, downloaded models, and entitlement or usage state.
• From network requests only in the limited cases described below, such as model downloads, Apple Intelligence use, or App Store purchase flows.

4. How Data Is Used

• To generate AI responses and continue conversations.
• To provide document question-answering, summaries, and retrieval features.
• To support optional voice and Apple Watch experiences.
• To save your preferences, chat history, downloaded models, and consent choices locally.
• To verify whether you have an active Pro entitlement.
• To enforce free-tier limits such as daily usage caps for non-Pro users.

5. When Data Stays On-Device

When you use downloadable local models, AI inference runs on your device. In that mode, your prompts, document text, conversation history, and voice-derived text are processed locally by the app.

When you use local models, Own AI does not send your prompts, documents, or chat history to Google, Meta, Microsoft, Alibaba, Hugging Face, or other model publishers for AI inference.

6. When Data May Be Shared with Third Parties

6.1 Apple Intelligence

If you choose Apple Intelligence, your prompts, relevant conversation context, and attached document text may be sent to Apple Inc., including Apple Private Cloud Compute, to generate a response. This happens only when you select that model experience and grant the required permissions.

The categories of data that may be shared include prompt text, conversation context, and extracted text from attached documents needed to answer your request.

6.2 Model Downloads

When you download a model, the app retrieves files from Hugging Face, Inc. or other hosting infrastructure used for model distribution. Those requests may include:

• Your IP address
• Basic request metadata such as device or operating system headers

No chat prompts, imported document content, or conversation history are intentionally sent as part of a model download request.

6.3 In-App Purchases

If you purchase, restore, or manage Own AI Pro, those transactions are handled by Apple through StoreKit and the App Store. We do not receive your full payment card details. Apple may provide us with transaction and entitlement information needed to determine whether Pro is active on your device.

7. Free Tier Limits and Randomized Daily Usage Caps

For users who do not have Own AI Pro, the app may enforce daily message limits. To reduce abuse and protect the experience, the app may choose a daily free usage cap within a range rather than using the same exact number every day.

That daily limit, usage counter, and warning state are stored locally on your device. They are used only to enforce feature access inside the app and are not intended as analytics profiling.

8. Storage, Retention, and Control

• Chats, imported document text, settings, and local model files are stored on your device.
• You can delete chats and documents from within the app.
• You can enable chat auto-deletion from Settings.
• Deleting the app may remove locally stored data that is not backed up elsewhere by your device.

9. Tracking and Analytics

• The app does not use third-party advertising SDKs.
• The app is intended to minimize tracking and avoid unnecessary sharing of personal content.
• If analytics or conversion measurement are added in a future release, this policy will be updated before or when those changes ship.

10. Children

Own AI is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through our own servers.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The version posted here is the current version, and continued use of the app after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
