A native macOS tool for inspecting SQLite, Realm, Core Data, SwiftData, JSON and property list files. Stuck on something, found a bug, or want a format supported? Start here.
Only for formats that keep sibling files alongside the one you
opened — SQLite in WAL mode needs its -wal and
-shm files, and Realm needs its .lock and
.management files. The app explains exactly which files it
needs before asking, and "Open Anyway" lets you decline and continue
without them.
Files open read-only by default. The first time you unlock one for
editing, a safety copy is made automatically, so File ▸ Revert to
Safety Copy can put the original back exactly as it was. Every
edit, insert and delete is also undoable with ⌘Z.
For longer sessions, File ▸ Snapshots (⇧⌘S)
lets you take your own checkpoints and go back to any of them. A snapshot
is also taken automatically before a structural change that undo cannot
reverse, such as dropping a table.
SQLite, Core Data and SwiftData (all three share SQLite's on-disk
format), Realm — including encrypted .realm files — plus
JSON, JSON Lines and property lists. Encrypted SQLite databases
(SQLCipher) can be read too: enter the passphrase or key when asked. They
open read-only, and File ▸ Save Decrypted Copy writes a plain
copy if you need one for another tool.
Yes, once the file is unlocked. The schema tab can create, rename and drop tables, add, rename, change and drop columns, declare foreign keys, and create and drop indexes. Every change shows you the exact SQL it will run — and what it will cost, such as how many rows a drop will delete — before anything happens.
Yes, through Shortcuts. Three actions are available: get the tables in a database, run a read-only query, and export a table. They are read-only by design, so a shortcut cannot modify a file while nobody is watching.
No. There's no network code in the app at all. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
Data Inspector Pro is free to download and needs a subscription to use, monthly or yearly. New subscribers get a free trial first, and nothing is charged if you cancel at least a day before it ends. Either plan unlocks everything; the yearly one costs less over a year.
In the app, open Settings ▸ Subscription and choose
Open App Store, or go to your account in the App Store and
pick Subscriptions. You keep access until the end of the period you've
already paid for.
No. Anyone who bought Data Inspector Pro as a paid download keeps full
access. The app normally recognises this on its own; if it shows the
subscription screen anyway, choose Restore Purchases while
signed in to the Apple Account you bought it with.
Sign in to the App Store with the same Apple Account and choose
Restore Purchases on the subscription screen or in
Settings ▸ Subscription.
Email alice.turcanu91@gmail.com with what you were doing, what you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot and the file format involved (SQLite, Realm, Core Data, SwiftData, JSON, or plist) help the most.
